Solidworks 2015 [hot]
Does anyone else remember the release of SolidWorks 2015? It feels like just yesterday we were installing those massive DVD discs (or crossing our fingers during the download)!

In the sketching environment, several small but impactful changes were introduced: Perhaps the most significant addition was SOLIDWORKS Model
Even years after its initial release, SolidWorks 2015 is still utilized, particularly in academic, research, and specialized engineering environments where established, stable workflows are preferred. Its ability to create complex surface modeling for natural structures (such as teeth) shows its enduring, robust modeling engine.
Perhaps the most significant addition was SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition, which enabled users to define 3D Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) directly on the model. Dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, weld symbols, bills of materials, and other annotations could all be embedded in the 3D model, which could then be published to industry‑standard formats such as 3D PDF and eDrawings. As one engineer from GE Oil & Gas noted, “With SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition, the 3D model itself holds all the dimensional data necessary to make the part. This means less documentation creation, fewer emails flying around, and fewer files to sustain when the project is complete.”
