The theatrical release was set for 20 December 2024.

The story that unfolded on screen was nothing like the low-budget trailers he’d expected. Khadaan (literally “the dig” in Bengali) opened with a wide tracking shot of a once-thriving coal-mining settlement now rusted and half-swallowed by monsoon greenery. The director’s camera lingered on the lines in miners’ faces, the slow sag of their shoulders, and the brittle pride of a town whose industry had been quietly siphoned away.

: The film featured a talented ensemble. Dev, who also co-produced and co-wrote the film, delivered a high-energy performance as Shyam Mahato, complemented by Jisshu Sengupta's portrayal of the cunning yet complex Mohan Das. The supporting cast included Barkha Bisht, Idhika Paul, and Anirban Chakrabarti. The technical team included cinematographer Shailesh Awasthhi and a music team featuring composers like Savvy and Rathijit Bhattacharya.

The story tracks the rise of an immigrant worker, Shyam Mahato (played by Dev), and a local miner, Mohan Das (played by Jisshu Sengupta). Together, they build a massive colliery empire, clashing with tribal factions, political entities, and underworld syndicates.

: Look for the film on platforms that frequently host premium Bengali content, such as Hoichoi, Zee5, Amazon Prime Video, or Disney+ Hotstar, depending on which network secured the post-theatrical digital rights.

The film grossed over ₹26 crore , becoming the highest-grossing Bengali film of 2024 and the third highest-grossing of all time.
