The story follows Mike Enslin (John Cusack), a cynical author who debunks paranormal phenomena. He checks into the infamous Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York—a room that has allegedly caused the deaths of 56 guests. The hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson) warns him, "It's an evil fucking room." Enslin ignores the warning, and the room proceeds to systematically dismantle his sanity.
