This paper examines the ethnographic legacy of Ogotemmeli, the Dogon philosopher whose dialogues with French anthropologist Marcel Griaule in the 1940s introduced the complexity of African metaphysics to the Western world. By analyzing the structure of Ogotemmeli’s teachings regarding the creation of the universe, the symbolism of the granary, and the "Word" (Nommo), this study argues that Ogotemmeli was not merely an informant, but an active intellectual agent who synthesized oral traditions into a coherent philosophical system.
