The (invoked by clicking the […] button) discovers routers using MNDP (MikroTik Neighbor Discovery Protocol) and even shows CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) devices — though you cannot manage Cisco routers with Winbox. From the list of discovered routers, you can click on either the IP address column or the MAC address column to connect:
v2 works seamlessly with older RouterOS versions (pre-v6 and early v6).
If you are working with modern RouterOS, it is generally recommended to use the latest version available on the MikroTik website, but for everything else, v2.218 is the reliable "top" choice.
