In 1594, the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, known for his obsession with the occult, added the book to his treasure castle in Prague. However, during the closing chapters of the Thirty Years’ War in 1648, the Swedish army looted Prague. They seized Rudolf II's collection, including the Codex Gigas, as war booty. The manuscript was taken to Stockholm, where it remains to this day at the National Library of Sweden (Kungliga Biblioteket).
