The story follows , a green ogre who loves the solitude of his swamp. His peace is shattered when the villainous Lord Farquaad banishes all fairytale creatures to Shrek's home. To get his swamp back, Shrek strikes a deal: he must rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower so Farquaad can marry her.

The actress handles the shift from prim princess to kickboxing ogre well. The “I’m a princess trapped in an ogre’s body” monologue is delivered with genuine emotion.
