India has one of the lowest female labor force participation rates (FLFPR) globally (approx. 37% as of 2024), yet female entrepreneurship is rising rapidly.
India has one of the highest numbers of female doctors and engineers in the world. Parents who once educated their daughters only to "increase dowry prospects" now send them to IITs and IIMs. However, the dropout rate remains high. While 48% of Indian women enroll in higher education, the workforce participation rate is only around 30-35%. Why? Marriage and childcare pressures still push women out of the workforce.
