A mechanical deaerator (DA) heats feed water with steam to near-boiling temperatures. Because the solubility of gases drops to near zero at boiling point, heating strips away up to 99% of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide. This drastically reduces the consumption and cost of downstream chemical oxygen scavengers. Boiler Blowdown Operations
Design and Tone The handbook’s language is spare, direct, and respectful of operators' time. Diagrams are annotated photos from real plants. Troubleshooting lists appear alongside small decision trees. Each chapter ends with a "Daily Operator's Checklist" and a one-page "What to Do When…" emergency card designed to be laminated and pinned to the control room wall.
Regular testing is non-negotiable for a "practical" approach to boiler care.
