Another core function is the ability to read, modify, and write EEPROM data, which includes the vehicle's odometer reading. The software includes a full hexadecimal editor where users can manually browse and adjust data in the EEPROM dump. When an instrument cluster is replaced with a second-hand unit, its mileage will not match the vehicle's actual history. The VAG EEPROM Programmer allows a technician to read the donor cluster's EEPROM, locate and edit the mileage data to the correct value, and write it back to the cluster. It can also perform tasks like correcting mileage on certain clusters and reading/clearing error codes.
