Mecano's music career began in 1981 when the group started performing in local bars and clubs in Madrid. Their first single, "Puerto de Santa María," was released in 1982, but it was their second single, "Hoy no quiero hablar de amor," that brought them their first taste of success. Their debut album, (1984), was a moderate success, but it laid the foundation for their future hits.
